101 Fahrenheit

One hundred and one degrees fahrenheit corresponds to 38.3 degrees centigrade. A slightly elevated temperature in most contexts and this summer a fate issue in more ways than one. Fever. Summer Heat.

Of course, the title of the exhibition also refers to the Ray Bradbury novel with a title where the degree number is much higher, more specifically 451 which is the heat needed for paper to catch fire. A story of a future where the fire brigade, instead of extinguishing, burns all books. A story in the same spirit as George Orwell's 1984. We have passed both that year and the millennium shift that would give us the glorious future. We live very close to a Post-everything. Everyone is sweating, those who deny facts as well as those who consent. Big brother has been seeing us for a long time. The concept of "arms-lenght distance" has been given a new meaning while the meaning it had in December 2019 has not changed but if possible become even more relevant in the shadow of a virality that is not just about being seen online.
