Information
Capturing a person's likeness and presence in a portrait painting.

As a portrait painter, I love the challenge of capturing the person I am painting. Each person has their own face, but also an aura. It's not just about recreating a photographic likeness, although that is important. It requires something extra, something that develops spontaneously and intuitively in the portrait. The portrait is finished when I feel that the person lives within the painting - a unique feeling individual in the midst of life.

That's why when I paint portraits, I meet the person first, make some sketches as a starting point, and take some photos. The material helps me in the painting process, and the memory of the person is an important part of it all.
